Six Months in Australia

As part of an international exchange program I attended Sunshine Beach State High School in Queensland, Australia, for about 6 months. Queensland with its capital Brisbane is very popular for exchange students because of the plenty places of natural beauty. The state contains six World Heritage listed preservation areas, such as the Great Barrier Reef.

Sunshine Beach State High School offers classes from year 8 to year 12 for about1100 students with a wide range of socio-economic demographics. They also offer an International Student Program for students from all over the world. This international composition generates an extension of learning academically, culturally and socially for all students. School uniform is required because Australians believe it creates a better community.
My exchange program started in January and lasted til June. The school system in Australia is completely different to the Austrian. So, I could choose my preferred subjects from a wide curriculum such as surfing. The testing system is different too. For each subject is an assignment required at the end of the term, exams only in the subjects Maths and English.

My host family welcomed me heartily so I became part of the family quickly. Besides going to school I travelled to the most beautiful places in Australia. So I had the chance to explore this overwhelming country.

All in all, I had unforgettable impressions, improved my English and I’m now very self-organized. One day I want to go back to Australia.
